Cross-Border Exports Decline Due To COVID-19

· Cross-border Trade,Economy

According to the Ministry of Commerce, Myanmar’s cross-border exports fell by $37 million (49 billion kyats) due to COVID-19 restrictions compare to the same period last year. Exports were valued at $6.5 billion (8.6 trillion kyats) from October 2018 to August 2019. Exports to China were hit the hardest because of Beijing’s heavy restrictions on border trade, imposed to avoid COVID-19 being reimported. Corn exports to China have been suspended since late August.
