More Japanese car parts companies are expected to enter Myanmar to meet local demand, said Japanese Ambassador to Myanmar, Mr. Ichiro Maruya, adding that Suzuki currently operates in Thilawa; Toyota will at the SEZ (Special Economic Zone) in 2021.
Suzuki set up a plant in Thilawa SEZ, operating since 1998, with the investment of US$60 million, and it has been assembling the Suzuki Swift since 2018, whereas with the investment of US$ 52.6 million, Toyota is currently building its first factory where it will produce the Toyota Hilux in 2021.
If more car parts companies that will come along with car makers, invest in Myanmar, they can pass on knowledge and know-hows, said Mr. Maryuama.
