According to officials, the Myanmar government has no plan to postpone the general election. Myanmar is now facing a second wave of COVID-19 with the number of positive cases increasing almost daily. Starting from 20 September, the cases were constantly increasing. The updated cases according to the Ministry of Health and Sports on 6th October was overall 20,033 cases but there was no announcement that was related to postponement of the general election happening in November.
A senior commission official, U Myint Naing, said that they have no plan to postpone the election due to the reason of Covid 19, in an online briefing. He also added information on how they are preparing to increase the polling stations. Monywa Aung Shin, a senior official from the ruling National League for Democracy party, told Reuters he believed the election would make no difference to the trajectory of the pandemic.
