Myanmar’s New Government Plans for 2021

· Economy

The November 8th general election resulted in Aung San Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy winning enough seats again to form a government. Those newly voted in will take their seats in the Hluttaw (parliament) in February and vote for a president. The government will then form in late March. The new cabinet will then be responsible for delivering results for the next 5 years.

The government had been focused on 11 sectors leading up to COVID but has since re-evaluated things for 2020 and this year 2021. In 2021 the government will spend more effort on investments in renewable energy, agriculture, and recovery of businesses.

The government expects to have a renewed interest from the U.S. once Joe Biden takes to the President's office. The U.S. is expected to invest in energy, telecoms, tourism, and natural gas in order to offset projects by China.
