Tour guide groups from Shan State, Mandalay and Bagan will cooperate to conduct surprise checks of unlicensed tour guides.
According to U Win Zaw Oo, chair of the Tour Guide Association of Mandalay, the three tour guide groups will work with the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism and the tourism police every Friday to inspect tourist attractions and they will record which travel agents are offering what kind of tours and services. They will send the record to the government and there will be problems for travel agents if they are not using licensed tour guides because tour guides need to tell tourists what to follow and avoid. Tourists also can face problems if they are not familiar with Myanmar culture and use unlicensed tour guides or no tour guides.
The ministry posts signs and sponsors talk shows with the cooperation of licensed travel agents to help tourists avoid such problems.
